Here we see Tony Wilson posing in the California sunshine for AMG. For reasons unknown he was Tony Lerwyn for Pat Milo and Roger Wildo when he posed for Champion. I was surprised we never saw him in any film -- especially at AMG. He had a nice, tightly muscled body and I'm sure he would have held his own on a wrestling mat.
A collection of classic male physique photos from the 20th century with an emphasis on the thousands of men who posed for Athletic Model Guild (AMG).

Another Biker
A model posing on (and off) a bike was a constant theme at AMG from the early 1950s through the 1980s.
Johnny Stumps
Johnny poses on the AMG rooftop winterized for the holidays, early 1970s. He also posed for Bruce of LA and Pat Milo.

That Mystery Sofa
Over the years I've seen photos of four or five different models seated bare ass on this checkered sofa. In fact, one of the photos includes a very young looking Tico Patterson, sans facial hair.
I'm starting to believe they are from AMG, but not studio photos. With the exception of Tico, the other three or four models looked like rough trade. Very rough trade. I'll post some soon .
Can anyone offer any more information?

Keith Long & Brian Diaz
Keith Long (beard) and Brian Diaz play cowboy and vaquero in one of the many spanking vids Brian did for AMG.
Based on what we learned about Keith, it would seem more appropriate if he were on the receiving end of that spanking. Bob Mizer warned us to hide the jewelry if Keith was paying a visit. Just saying.

Revolt of the Slaves
The full cast of the AMG film Revolt of the Slaves released in 1963.
I had a thing for Ed Manning -- and by "thing" I mean boner -- but the whole cast was easy on the eyes and looked great in this one. And no, Ed was not related to the three Manning brothers, John, Joe and Jim.
Brian Diaz

Tico Patterson on the AMG Bike
One of my all-time favorite models and I've always loved this photo. Considering the number of times he posed for AMG and Old Reliable, we never learned much about him. And sometimes the bio information differed from other sources.
AMG said he was born in 1948 or 1950, depending on which publication you read. Old Reliable said he was born in 1951 or 1952. Both sources gave June 4th as the day. Perhaps Tico shaved off a few years as he got older.
His first session with Old Reliable was released in 1982. In the promo brochure for that tape, David Hurles said Tico was "pushing thirty years old", which gives credence to the 1951 or 1952 date. I guess Tico is the only one who knows for sure.
David also told us Tico was from Trenton, NJ, but Mizer stated he was from Baltimore. See the confusion?

Shannon & Stumps
Terry Shannon (left) and Johnny Stumps on the landscaped AMG rooftop in 1972.
Johnny did a few films for AMG, but there are numerous photo sets of him. He also found time to pose for Milo and Bruce.
As for Johnny's posing partner, Mizer told us Terry Shannon robbed the Spotlight Bar in Hollywood. Over the years I learned to take Mizer's anecdotal information on his models with some skepticism. He had a habit of confusing some models with other models. Usually there was some truth in what Mizer told us, but the details were often confusing, and sometimes just plain wrong. More on this in later posts.
Lew Marshall
I incorrectly identified this handsome chap in a previous post. That's Lewis "Lew" Marshall in a photo by Champion.
Jim, Pat & Lou
From the left: Jim Lassiter, Pat Albertsen and Lou La Venture do a line up for the AMG lens. Jim and Lou did a dozen or so films (at least) but Pat showed up for one or two and then he was gone.
The Often Crowded AMG Shower
Jim Mayhew (left) and the always fun to watch Shan Daymore conserve water in the AMG shower after their wrestling match in the early 1960s.
Jim sports a USMC tattoo on his arm. He was one of many marines who would stop by AMG to earn a few bucks. Often they would return with a buddy to do more work. Word of mouth brought many new models to the AMG lot.
AMG Wrestling
Another photo of Bill Newman (left) and Lee Siler (aka Lee Silver) before their wrestling match at AMG. At least Bill is smiling in this one.

"So Joey...do you like movies about gladiators?"
No one did costume drama like Bob Mizer at AMG. The photographer learned early that putting skimpy costumes on handsome guys and throwing them a sword or a spear helped AMG bring to life characters from a long-gone era. And it didn't hurt if they were nearly naked.
Most all of Mizer's dramas had a moral point and it didn't take much thinking to discern it. Good always triumphed over evil and love conquered everything. At times it seemed the only thing missing was a musical score heavy on the violins.
One of Mizer's first costume dramas was Slave Market, released in 1960. With a cast of eight models, including fan favorites like Joe Leitel, Reed Phippen, Ray Fowle and John Krivos, this was sure to be an AMG hit. While Mizer never released sales info on his films, I suspect this one did do very well for him. The film was promoted in several brochures throughout the 1960s, right up to the end of the posing pouch era.
Below are some stills from Slave Market. Top photo: That's Ray Fowle in the cage with handsome Reed Phippen standing on the right. The guy with the flowers in his hair (or is that a laurel?) is Don McConnell who did a lot of work for Zenith Films.

AMG Wrestling
Bill Newman (foreground) and Lee Siler pose for AMG at the start of their wrestling match in 1960. Lee was called Lee SILVER in at least one AMG publication. I never saw the match and I have no stats on either guy, but Lee certainly was a big boy.
I like Bill's face in this one. He looks like he's ready to kick butt and take names. Maybe he was just angry with Bob Mizer for giving him such a huge opponent.
If anyone can add information on either model and/or their match, use the comments section. Thanks!

One Saucy Seaman
Cambria sent me evidence that this model's name was actually Roy Batts. A previous post had him incorrectly identified.

Kris Todd
Kris Todd has his opponent assume the position in this photo by AMG. Kris had a legion of fans and that's probably why Bob Mizer put him in several dozen films back in the late 1980s .
AMG Anal/Erotic Pose (Updated)
Bob Mizer called these the a/e photos, of which there are thousands. Starting in the 1970s, it seemed to be a standard pose for every model that came through the gates at AMG.
Update: Can anyone put a name to either model? I posted these photos a few months ago and misidentified one of the models. Anyone?

Perfect Specimens Returns
For those of you who followed me at my old blog (Perfect Specimens) hosted by that company whose name rhymes with mumbler, Welcome Back!
This new blog will showcase men from days gone by. My rule of thumb for "days gone by" is the photo must be from at least twenty years ago. I will occasionally break that rule if the subject is truly a "perfect specimen".
There's plenty to see, so add me to your favorites and let me know you found me!
Photo: Champ at Old Reliable in 1982.
Of course I had to start with Champ. It was a no brainer! LOL.
