I posted this photo in the early days of this blog.  I knew the guy on the left was Robert Rex, but I could not identify his friend with the chest tattoo.  That's Don McConnell.  

More AMG Drama

Another still from the AMG film Slave Market released in 1960.  Ray Fowle is the slave in the cage offered for sale by the handsome Reed Phippen.  The potential buyer on bended knee is Don McConnell.  

This was the film that introduced us to Ray Fowle.

"So Joey...do you like movies about gladiators?"

No one did costume drama like Bob Mizer at AMG.  The photographer learned early that putting skimpy costumes on handsome guys and throwing them a sword or a spear helped AMG bring to life characters from a long-gone era.  And it didn't hurt if they were nearly naked. 

Most all of Mizer's dramas had a moral point and it didn't take much thinking to discern it.  Good always triumphed over evil and love conquered everything.  At times it seemed the only thing missing was a musical score heavy on the violins.  

One of Mizer's first costume dramas was Slave Market, released in 1960.  With a cast of eight models, including fan favorites like Joe Leitel, Reed Phippen, Ray Fowle and John Krivos, this was sure to be an AMG hit.  While Mizer never released sales info on his films, I suspect this one did do very well for him.  The film was promoted in several brochures throughout the 1960s, right up to the end of the posing pouch era.
