Wait A Second...What Happened?

A while back I posted the top photo in this post.  It's a still from the AMG film Cowboys and Indians, released in 1958.  The plot was simple: two cowboys come across an Indian sleeping on the ground with his horse tied up nearby him.  The guys decide to steal his horse.  But the tables turn when a second Indian comes to the rescue.  

That's Joe Leitel binding the feet of the sleeping Indian played by George Savage.  The cowboy on the left is Dick Dearwester and the Indian sneaking up behind Joe is Richard Collier.  

See if you can spot the differences In the second photo before you read this paragraph.  Joe and George are still wearing their respective costumes, but Richard and Dick have switched outfits.  It looks like Dick is having second thoughts being so exposed, but Richard seems to enjoy his new role.   

Speaking of costumes, do you think those pants Joe is wearing were his own?  I think so.  He must have been a helluva sight walking around LA in those tight, button down jeans.   

A Rare Event

I couldn't resist posting this group photo of the full cast of the AMG film Pharaoh's New Slave.  One of the few photos you'll ever see where all three of the Manning brothers are seen together.  Usually, at least one of the brothers was occupying an LA county jail cell.

Story Time

At first glance you may not think this is an AMG photo.  Au contraire, mon ami.  

That's Joe Leitel binding the feet of an Indian played by George Savage.  The other cowboy (wearing those cute shorts) is Dick Dearwester.  And the Indian sneaking up behind Joe is Richard Collier. 

These four guys made up the entire cast of the AMG film with the blissfully uncomplicated title "Cowboys and Indians".  The cowboys tie up George so they can steal his horse.  Richard rescues his fellow Indian and a wrestling match takes place.  The Indians win the match and they end up binding the cowboys together before they head off into the sunset.  The End. 

This was one of AMG's first storyline films and sadly I've never seen it.  The film was released in 1958 and heavily promoted with plenty of pictures well into the mid-1960s. 

Pharaoh's New Slave

Another photo from the epic AMG saga Pharaoh's New Slave by AMG in 1960.  This one had all three of the Manning brothers.  

Victor Gottlieb played the Pharaoh.  The two guys standing are Richard Collier (left) and Jim Manning.  Seated on the right is Frank Renault and the model seated on the left is Joe Manning.  

John Manning wrestled his brother Joe in this scene, but he must have stepped out for a pee break when this photo was taken. 

The Exhibitionist (AMG, 1964)

Ed Manning is working out wearing only his posing pouch when nosy neighbor "Madame X" passes by an open window.  The Madame is shocked to see Ed so scantily clad and demands he put on some clothes.  Ed blows her off, so Madame X calls Officer Don Parks to the window.  At first, Don tries to reason with Ed, but soon Don strips down and joins Ed in his workout -- much to the Madame's chagrin.  

Yeah, I know.  Another AMG film with a silly plot and campy acting.  But this one has Ed Manning in it and he looked damn good! 

Madame X was portrayed by Richard Collier who also posed for Pat Milo.  

Pharaoh's New Slave

A photo from one of the early costume dramas that only AMG could deliver.  This gem was titled Pharaoh's New Slave.  One of only two AMG films that has all three of the Manning brothers performing together.  (Click on the photo to embiggen.) 

From the left: Richard Collier, Victor Gottlieb, John Manning, Joe Manning, Frank Renault and Jim Manning. 

John and Joe are the wrestlers.  That's John on the left.  Victor plays the Pharaoh seated on the throne.  Frank is the guy sitting on the ground behind John and Joe.  Richard is the handsome guard on the left and Jim is the other handsome guard on the far right.  

I'm a big John Manning fan.  His brothers were pretty damn hot, too.  Mizer noted that getting all three of them together for a film was a tough feat to accomplish.  At any given time, at least one of them was probably spending time in the LA county jail.
