Trespassing

Joe is caught sunbathing on Bob's land and is told to leave.  The film is only 5 minutes long because that was the whole plot.  No wrestling.  No posing.  That's it. 

I'm posting this because we can always use another photo of Bob Wilson.

Oh Brothers!!!

I'm going to put this one down as "you learn something new every day".  This morning I found a thirty second clip of the AMG film Experimental Model starring all three of the Manning brothers, Joe, Jim and John.  In the clip the guys hold up a sign showing each or their ages.  John is listed as 25, Jim is 21 and Joe is 19.  The film was released in 1964 but more than one source stated it was filmed in 1961.  I know John was born around 1936, so the age given for John does correspond with that information.  I've been calling Jim the youngest of the three brothers for as long as I can remember.  But he's actually the middle child and Joe is the youngest.

Below is a group photo from the movie.  The guys are lined up chronologically.  That's Joe on the left, Jim in the middle, and John on the right.  It looks like I have some corrections to make on my blog.

Monkey Business

Tom Parks (who Mizer said was lazy and recalcitrant) bends over Joe Manning in a still photo from the AMG film Monkey Business.  I'll spare you the plot details, but in the end the two guys wrestle on the floor.  Quelle surprise!  

The blurb at the bottom of this photo told us Joe, along with his brothers John and Jim, were not available for any additional work at this time.  Allow me to translate: All three of them were locked up in the LA county jail at the time of this publication.  Quelle surprise! 

If True...It's A Damn Shame!

Recently I had the pleasure of going through my photos of the three Manning brothers -- John, Joe and Jim -- and I noticed something.  I don't have any photos showing Jim's butt.  None.  I've got a few of John's muscular cheeks and a couple of photos of Joe's beefy butt, but not one photo of Jim's ass. In fact, I don't think I've seen one anywhere, ever. 

Are there no photos of Jim from the rear?  If so, can someone direct me?  This goal is now on my bucket list. 

Below are two photos of Jim.  The top one is from Lyle Frisby and the other one is a photo of all three of the brothers from the AMG film Experimental Model -- where we get a side glimpse of Jim's cheeks. 

The Middle One

Joe Manning was the youngest of the three Manning brothers.  All three of them posed for AMG during the posing pouch era.  Fortunately John and Jim also posed for other photographers who had them discard their posing pouches.  It was then we got to see the family resemblance below the belt.  

As far as I know, Joe posed only for AMG.  Here he is displaying his beefy frame on the set of Experimental Model -- an AMG film he did with both of his older brothers. 

John, Joe and Jim Manning

My friend at Vintage Muscle Men recently posted the first photo in this series and correctly identified him as John Manning but did not know the name of the photographer.  

I also posted this photo a while back and my guess then was it's from Dave Martin, but I wasn't sure.  So today I went on a search to compare my photos of John Manning when he posed for various photographers on the west coast. 

After hours of research (😉) I think I may have a better idea of who did this one.  As I'll explain in this post I have a hunch this may be from photographer Lyle Frisby.  

The next two photos are John Manning (right) and his younger brother Jim.  (There was a third even younger brother named Joe whom I will reference later in this post.)  Both of these photographs are obviously from the same photographer and I have several confirmations they are from Lyle Frisby.  

I've also previously posted the next two photos of John and attributed them to Bruce of LA.  I have several confirmations that they are actually from Mr. Frisby. 

The next photo is once again John and his brother Jim and I'm going with Lyle Frisby.  I love the tan lines on these guys. 

Now here's a great photo of Jim Manning and I'm tempted to say it's from Frisby.  I can't find any attribute for this one.  I'm also tempted to say Pat Milo, since I know John posed for him and this one has a sort of Milo feel to it.  I will say Jim looks damn good in this photo.  

Here's a photo of Jim that I know is from Bruce of LA.  Jim looks like the cat who ate the canary.  And for you size queens out there (I'm raising my hand) Jim should definitely appeal to many of you.  

I couldn't resist posting the next photo.  It's from Bruce of LA and IMO it has many things going for it.  

Here's one I used as a screensaver for a few months last year.  It's John on the left with brother Jim in a similar position. (I assume they were studying for the LSAT.)  Once again, I'm going with Frisby.  

I remember the first time I saw this one.  I thought, "Well, they may not be twin bros, but they definitely had a remarkable resemblance."

And finally we move on to Joe Manning.  To my knowledge he only posed for AMG and did just four films -- two of them with his brothers.  Here he is with everyone's favorite bad boy, Bob Wilson (right) in the film The Trespasser.  

I would say Joe was the most conventionally handsome of the three bros.  He never did any nude work at AMG, so I can't say he was as blessed as John and Jim.  But, like his older brothers, he sure could pack a posing pouch.

Pharaoh's New Slave

Another photo from the epic AMG saga Pharaoh's New Slave by AMG in 1960.  This one had all three of the Manning brothers.  

Victor Gottlieb played the Pharaoh.  The two guys standing are Richard Collier (left) and Jim Manning.  Seated on the right is Frank Renault and the model seated on the left is Joe Manning.  

John Manning wrestled his brother Joe in this scene, but he must have stepped out for a pee break when this photo was taken. 

Les Frères Manning

Some More Real Brothers

As I've said in a previous post, AMG had several real life brothers who modeled for AMG.  Here's a couple more to add to your collection. 

Here we have the three Manning brothers in a still from the AMG film Experimental Model.  That's Jim on the left and Joe on the right trying to subdue brother John.  In a promo for this film, Mizer told us this was one of the rare times the three brothers were out of jail at the same time. 

Here's a couple of stills from the AMG film Sailor and the B Girl released in 1962.  Rick Spencer plays the sailor and his brother Joe is the "girl".  The movie was filmed in a bar somewhere in LA.  

The two brothers did many films at AMG, including two of them together.  Like the Manning brothers, the Spencer boys were also from Portland, Oregon. 

The Infamous AMG Shower

I don't know how many guys were photographed in the AMG shower.  I would guess at least a few hundred, but if someone told me closer to a thousand or more, I would not argue with them.  

Usually the shower was the last stop of the model's photo session.  If two or more models worked together that day, then they all shared the shower for the clean up.  

Below are a few shots of guys conserving water at AMG.  Unfortunately I don't have any names for these fine looking men.  If you can ID any or all of them, please drop me a line.

Pharaoh's New Slave

A photo from one of the early costume dramas that only AMG could deliver.  This gem was titled Pharaoh's New Slave.  One of only two AMG films that has all three of the Manning brothers performing together.  (Click on the photo to embiggen.) 

From the left: Richard Collier, Victor Gottlieb, John Manning, Joe Manning, Frank Renault and Jim Manning. 

John and Joe are the wrestlers.  That's John on the left.  Victor plays the Pharaoh seated on the throne.  Frank is the guy sitting on the ground behind John and Joe.  Richard is the handsome guard on the left and Jim is the other handsome guard on the far right.  

I'm a big John Manning fan.  His brothers were pretty damn hot, too.  Mizer noted that getting all three of them together for a film was a tough feat to accomplish.  At any given time, at least one of them was probably spending time in the LA county jail.
