I'm Sure This Guy Broke Some Hearts

The baby-faced marine who Champion called Tuck Powell.  Considering the amount of work he did, he must have been very popular model.

Tuck was 19 years old when he posed for Champion.  We were told he wanted to be a fitness instructor after his stint in the marines.

  1. I read where he was killed in action in Vietnam in 1967, but there isn't a Tuck Powell listed in www.virtualwall.org.
Being a 'Nam vet myself, I would like his real name so I can visit the wall and check it out.
Being on the wall he is now in public domain and I can check the website and find out details of what happened to him. Thanks.

  2. I also read somewhere that he died in Vietnam about a year after he posed for Champion. Unfortunately, no details were given.

    1. Champ spent a weekend with Tuck Powell on the Beach in North Carolina before Tuck went to Vietnam. Early Monday morning they said goodbye. Champ gave him his address to write if he ever wished. He was a young man of manners, charm & warmth. He was proud to be a Marine serving his country and was bursting with life. Those three days had totally taken his mind off the grim journey ahead.

Less than a year later Champ got a letter from Tuck's fiance. Shortly after his 19th birthday Tuck had been fatally wounded in Vietnam.
