I recall reading somewhere that Lon actually lived for a time in a New York apartment previously inhabited and decorated by Mae West. It was said to have been loaded with Classical columns and rococo architectural details. That has left me and a few other observers with a chicken and egg conundrum. Did Lon rent the apartment because he already liked and was using such items in his work, or did he start using them because they were all around him?
