Cool Name

Lawrence Langnecker in a photo by Al Urban, late 1940s.

Lawrence was born in Essex County, New Jersey on August 7, 1919.  He served as a corporal in the US Army during World War II and finished his service in 1945. That is all the information I could find on this handsome guy.

This is also the only photo I have seen of Lawrence. I thought he might be a bodybuilder who made the rounds, but I guess not.  So what was his connection to Urban other than they were both from the same area of New Jersey?

  2. As do I, so I'll send mine as well in case we don't quite overlap.

  3. Urban used to provide lighting direction and equipment for physique contests in NJ & NY. As such he would recruit models from among the bodybuilders. Urban, like other physique photographers, would also recruit models from local gyms. That may have been the case with Lawrence Langnecker. - Rj

  5. He married a California girl in 1941 and was living out there in Alameda in 1949 and 1950. I wonder if he met any of the West Coast photographers.
