I have a smaller version of this photo where the leopard skin article that's draped over Freddie's right knee is much more prominent, and you can see his right hand on top of it. I think the cropping is all about emphasising another rather prominent feature that Freddie is loved for!
Might he have done it manually? It does look like it wants to stand up.
