It was said that some of the Guardsmen of that time used to hustle for extra money and kept 'redbooks', which listed their clients. Just before they would leave the military, they would pass their 'redbook' on to others in the military. They didn't call it Merry Ole England for nothing, the Grenadier and Golden Lion Pub in London were popular with Guardsmen and the Scots Guards. -Rj
