What Time Is It?

It's time for another round of Name That Model!  Click your buzzers if you can name any of the models in these photos.  Or maybe you've heard an interesting tidbit regarding the man?  Well, we'd love to hear it!  As always, your help is appreciated.

1. Let's start with what I think is a Colt model.  RJ says this if Jeff Sansone.

2. Roger Beaudoin by Mark One.  See Brian's comment.

3. AMG, of course.  Does his pouch have ridges?  Like Ruffles?

4. AMG.  Brian tells us this is Ron O'Brien.

5. Heart shaped butt captured by WPG.  B.B. tells us this is Harold Adducci.  Thanks!

6. AMG model with a promising bulge.  I think it's AMG.

7. There's that column again, so I'm going with AMG.  RJ says this is Miles Conley.

8. AMG again.  Mizer did a great job with the lighting here.

9. I think this is Pat Burnham from Western Photography Guild.

10. I'm not even sure of the photographer.  B.B. says it's from Ralph Kelly.

11. A double dose of some hairy beefcake with awesome sideburns!  AMG.

12. Relaxed and confident.

  2. Although I do not have names for the models in numbers 6 and 7, the faux marble columns used are a prop used by AMG. And again, no name for number 10, but i think the photographer is Ralph Kelly. Used same type draped backdrop and black covered "shapes". Hope this helps.

    2. Number 10 is BOB VERHEY. His photos are in Bob Mizer's YQ catalog and were taken in February 1956. BOB was a Marine stationed in San Diego at the time these photos were taken. Mizer's description of him said "Verhey is 19, 5'7" 163#. Has done a little weight training, but most of his fine physical structure was gained from heavy farm work in Minnesota. BOB would like to go into amateur racing, but currently lacks the funds for this expensive hobby. Quiet, and soft-spoken, Bob is a pleasant easy-going fellow that everyone likes." BOB VERHEY was born Jan 19, 1937, was married in 1958 and divorced in 1972, and died Feb 8, 1996.

    3. I agree with Cambria that No 10 is AMG. I don't have catalog YQ but I assume Cambria does from the detailed description. My comment is that I suspect like nearly all of Mizer's shots, the publish date of 1956 is actually way later than the date the images were actually shot. The corrugated backdrop is certainly the same item used in Kovert's studio (which appear behind Millard and Miller in the very earliest catalogs around 1946.) The device even folded to make something that looked like a column, and I don't think Mizer owned or inherited (when Kovert died in 1949) since it never appeared in any of Mizers later sets. I suspect the black item is a round top table draped in fabric. I believe it eventually became the fully wrapped circle that appeared in shots of models like Bill Terry and Bob Storr.

    1. Nice one! I would never have recognised him (and neither did my software!) This is photo number 29 of Miles for me.

  5. #2 - Roger Beaudoin - Canadian - photograph likely to be by fellow bodybuilder Gerald Desfosses (as that's the credit provided for two more photos I have in a similar setting). He was cover boy for Face & Physique magazine Vol. 8 by Acme
#9 I agree is Pat Burnham
That's all I've got, which is very disappointing.  I love the furry dude with the sideburns!

    1. Roger Beaudoin and Gerald Desfosses founded Mark One Studio and posed together in many photos. Magnificent photo. Ty for letting us know this was Roger.!

  6. Woo hoo! I finally remembered #4 (without software prompting!): Ron O'Brien. I remembered his first name was Ron and then I had to go through all my Rons, LOL! He's quite the specimen. Nice and beefy. I have 24 photos of him (5 of which are in colour). You know the drill, James!

Men from Back Then“ herausfinden.

  9. It seemed to me that the true BodyBuilders became less frequent as the 1960s progressed and there were far more twinks and twunks rather than true BBs leading up to the 1968 American legalization of full Nudity. Of course after 1968 the legal need for "Vintage Physique" Models soon vanished within just a few years time.

  10. #10 is by AMG - at least I have a second photo of this model in Bob Mizers garden. In this photo you also has a better look at the tattoo on his arm - in case you are interested.
