Into The Unknowns

It's that time again where I post a photo of a model I can't identify and ask for your assistance.  No prizes are awarded for correct IDs, but you will get my sincere thanks.

First up is a Douglas of Detroit photo I nabbed from VMM the other day.  This photo generated many positive readers comments on that blog and it's easy to see why.  As I write this post, no one has been able to put a name to this stud.

  1. Douglas of Detroit, Doug Juleff, had his career ruined when the Chief of the Detroit Police came into possession of a photo of one of his Officers posing Nude with a nightstick in 1958. Juleff took the photo. Most of his prints and negatives were destroyed during the 1958 Detroit police raid in which his own father assisted the cops. Mr. Juleff was jailed and never took up photography again even when male nudes became legal in the USA in the late '60s. I suspect that this photo was purposefully made with no name by Juleff because the model had some type of job that required discretion to avoid the attention of the Police. I have no proof just my theory. Juleff tried to be careful but the end result for him was horrible.

  2. According to an article from the Detroit Free Press dated March 18, 1955 = Juleff, age 37, was arrested by police officers for doing an international business in obscene photographs at his studio at 8230 Woodward. Juleff plead guilty to possession of obscene materials, and Judge Gerald Groat referred Juleff to the probation dept and psychiatric clinic and remanded Juleff to jail without bond to await sentencing.
During this time Juleff was employed as a photographer at Hudson's, the world's largest department store. - Rj

  3. Early in his career, Douglas Juleff had taken a photo of Detroit police officer Wendell Meyer with a nightstick and an erection. Years later, it landed on the Police Chief's desk. All of the Photos found by police were destroyed and it is believed the photos of Wendell Meyer were all burned by Police. Nothing remained of Meyer's photos. Wendell Meyer was fired by the Detroit Police for cause and was not eligible for UC and all records of his employment were destroyed. The photos that Juleff stored at Hudsons were really all that remained.
