A Stumper

Brian sent me this photo thinking it was someone else.  We now agree it's not, but we don't know who this guy is.

At first look I thought the model was reading from a catalog of Mizer's Subjective Characters.  I'm probably wrong on that one, but you can see why I thought it might be.  Its not an AMG photo.  The columns suggest another photographer or two.  One problem.  This guy is showing a full erection.  That's probably not a problem for most of you, it just makes me wonder who took this photo.

  1. As a total guess I would suggest a young DALE CURRY who was known to pose nude for Studios with no attribution. This photo looks like it was made by Fred Kovert of Hollywood circa 1947. Kovert was known to take a few nude photos of Men at full mast.

  2. I agree with Cambria that the photo was made by Kovert. Several other pics I have show the pleated white column props which do not appear in photographs from other photographers. Good eye, Cambria

  3. Thanks BB Dale Curry was a married truck driver who wore his wedding ring during photoshoots. Dale did a lot of nude work that was illegal at that time for Studios that did not want to use their names. Kovert was having a lot of problems and run ins with the Police in the late 1940s and I think this was his photo.

    1. I can't stress too strongly how much I disagree that this is Dale Curry. Dale was a very handsome fellow with a jawline to match and nice thatch of chesty hair (and furry legs). (Can you guess he's a favourite‽). Even allowing for him to be a little younger here, and waxing everything but his crotch, I just say no.

  4. So 'n verlangde jongman.
Miskien was hy 'n atletiese student wat deur Kovert gewerf is om naak te poseer en anoniem bly weens die eksplisiete natuur van die foto.

  5. One of the unknown physique models of Frederick Ko'Vert. Ko'Vert himself is of interest. He had been a female impersonator on stage and film in the 1920's, and at the same time operated a dance studio at 3790 Denker Avenue in Los Angeles. When that all panned out, he opened a physique photography studio on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood in 1944.
Ko'Vert apparently composed the photographs and had other photographers like Bob Mizer, Cecil Hills and Constatine Hassalevris do most of the actual photography.
Ko'Vert was notorious for the more explicit fare he offered and eventually was arrested on obscenity charges in 1945 and 1946. The stress of these arrests, his caring for a dependent mother and struggles with mental illness led Ko'Vert to commit suicide in 1949 by an overdose of barbiturates.
A sidenote, in 1924 Ko'Vert had a short time marriage/lavender arrangement to actress Mary Savage, real name Corrine Bradford, she had been a male impersonator ! -Rj

    1. Great information. Thanks! Kovert is my suspected photographer.

  6. RJ that was an excellent discussion of Fred Kovert. I always found it interesting that Kovert did "Gag Drag" in films yet was able to recognize incredible beauty in men in a masculine tasteful way mostly without posing pouches. No one should stress about my guess of Dale Curry it was just a total guess and most likely the model was never identified at all.

    1. After Ko'Vert died an associate came into possession of the remaining photographs. The associate passed away several years later, and those surviving photos were dispersed, and some destroyed.
As far as identifying this handsome model, it is anyone's guess. Ko'Vert did have catalog pages for his work, perhaps one day this model and others can be identified.
It is a shame there is no full archive of Ko'Vert, and the photographers he wisely chose to present his studio.
Like the majority of physique photographers, Ko'Vert had an eye for fine men, a skill and prerequisite for a physique photographer. -Rj

  7. Bel image d''un jeune homme sans doute fier de son corps.
Kovert a dû aimer huiler ce jeune Adonis. :)
