Cinco de Mayo

Let's celebrate Cinco de Mayo with José Garcia.  Born in 1956 in Culiacán, Mexico where he grew up to become a local favorite in the boxing circuit.  He moved to L.A. in 1980 and continued boxing as a lightweight fighter.  José had a respectable standing in the ring.

In 1982, José made his first appearance at AMG.  Mizer told us José stood 5ft 6in tall and weighed 140 lbs -- although he looked larger on video.  That same year fellow AMG model Ron Orlando took José to David Hurles (Old Reliable) home where the two of them flexed and posed for the camera.  Their session became a game of one-upmanship as they each strained for David's approval.  For this viewer it was a memorable event.  Ron liked to talk to the camera and tell us how impressive he was, while José was more succinct and used his posing routine to show us his impressive assets.

Over the next year or so José did roughly a half dozen hardcore films for various studios under the names Gabriel Garcia, José del Norte and my favorite, Popeye Garcia.  He continued to stop by Old Reliable for wrestling matches and made his last film there around 1987.

  1. Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration held on May 5th to celebrate Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. It is more popular in the USA than in Mexico and has come to be associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture. Jose Garcia is a perfect representation of that Spirit and May 5 is my Birthday.
