Big Chest

Guido says this is Charles Stroeder.

  1. Stroeder posed in the ruins of a mansion being demolished. At the time (1945-1955) Los Angeles tore out several streets and sections of neighborhoods to make way for the Hollywood Freeway and the expansion of others. I suspect this mansion was in the Hollywood Hills area of Whitley Heights, where whole streets of mansions and fine homes were demolished to make way for the Hollywood Freeway.
Also, several streets throughout Los Angeles were rezoned from residential to commercial use to meet the demands of an ever-growing city.

    1. The Mansion was in Whitley Heights and it cost a fortune to take it by eminent domain. You can see how they tore thru the neighborhood to make the freeway even today by taking a tour of Whitley Terrace and Wedgewood Ave. There are still some abandoned mansions remaining standing but in a condition that looks like they were in WW3.

  2. This is only the 2nd photo I've seen of Charles Stroeder (apart from another small catalogue page image) and in both (especially the other one I have) he sucks in his abdomen. He does it to such an extent in the other photo that I find it quite grotesque. It's not flattering at all!

    1. Yeah. That pose where the model sucks in his abdomen was frequently see back in the day. I never found it attractive.
