New Talent

A still from the 1965 AMG film Talent for Sale

Jim Panama (hat) is the talent scout who brings three prospective models to Bill Stevens (far left) for his review.  The three prospects (Bill Nolan, Bill Mahrer and Wayne Byrd) pose and preen for Stevens approval.  An argument breaks out and soon all of the guys (minus Panama) are on the floor in one big melee.

Jim Panama was actually Bob Mizer's talent scout, often bringing Mizer young guys he met on his many travels by rail across the country.

  1. Jim Panama was a cranky old guy who was a close associate of Bob Mizer and liked to hang out at AMG. Bob Mizer would do anything for him but sometimes locked Jim out of the AMG compound for stealing. Jim made many trips across the U.S. and would pick up guys and promise them things to get them to model. He did find a few outstanding Models for Mizer on these trips. Jim Panama was older than Bob Mizer and he outlived him and was one of the few who attended his funeral. A few years after Mizer died in 1992
Jim Panama was murdered along the side of the road on one of his trips scouting for male models.
