I'm reposting this because jimboyfan2 has provided several links in the comments to tell us what happened to Gunnery Sergeant Norman Elijah Moore. Thank you, jimboyfan2.
I recently found this page from Physique Pictorial Vol 31, issued in August, 1978. Here we can confirm Norman was indeed a marine, and a career one at that.
Thank you for sharing a Real Marine.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, my 7th cousin (through marriages) is no longer with us. He died at age 51. Links:

DeleteJim: Was Norman Moore a Marine Lifer.? One of your sources says that he retired from the Marines in 1977 after serving 20 years. Does 20 years service make you a "Lifer".?
DeleteHere's one link that explains the military term "lifer" as formerly being 20 years of service to qualify for a retirement benefit, without specifically saying it applies to a United States Marine.

DeleteYes, this Gunnery Sergeant was a Marine lifer.
ReplyDeleteJim: I just saw this today. I am truly sorry to lean what happened to Marine Norman Moore. Norman was an impressive Man who served his Country well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he died too young.
