Three Amigos

From the left: Sam Hunter, Brian Idol and Jim Horn on yet another outdoor adventure for Wyngate & Bevins.  Brian really did get around, didn't he?

  1. Bob Mizer told us that Brian Idol was born in Minnesota. Brian was discovered at a bus station in Los Angeles by Model Scout Darby Summers. His real name was Brian Arthur Hengel born in 1948.
Bob Carr of BobCo gave Brian Idol his stage name. Mizer often wrote that he did not understand the popularity of Idol's photos. By 1972 Mizer was complaining that Idol was just a shadow of the athlete he had been. Darby Summers apologized to Mizer for bringing him such a poor quality model. Idol vanished from Physique modeling and LA by 1973.

  2. Living in LA in the 60's was not a bed of roses for everyone, perhaps Brian fell between the cracks from a hard life like many people have, hence his physique going to pot. Not to mention our popular drug culture that has destroyed many :( Every porn personality that uses the Idol name owes Brian Hengel :)

  4. BRIAN had been in the Drug Scene but got out of it after a Bad experience. He was broke and unemployed when Darby Summers found him in a Bus Station in LA. and was planning on a trip somewhere else. Brian's Physique modeling and the hustling that he was able to do bc of that allowed him to remain in LA several years. LA was no picnic to live in even in the 1960s and Brian left in 1973. My personal opinion is he was not a model who would look back at his experience as positive or even want to discuss it. FWIW
